First Year of the Newborn - Timeline | Boromlia

Precious milestones from birth day through the first year of life

Birth Day

Welcome to the world, little one! At birth, babies weigh around 6-9 lbs and can only see 8-12 inches away. They recognize their parents' voices and have natural reflexes like grasping and sucking.

First Smile

At 1 month old, baby gave us their first real smile! This "social smile" is a major developmental milestone showing emotional connection. Babies this age can now track moving objects and are starting to coo.

First Vaccination

At 2 months, baby handled their first vaccinations like a champ! These protect against serious diseases. At this age, babies can hold their head up briefly, make gurgling sounds, and are becoming more alert and responsive.

Rolling Over

At 3 months old, baby rolled over for the first time! This shows growing core strength and muscle control. Babies this age can push up during tummy time, bring hands to mouth, and recognize familiar faces.

First Solid Food

At 4 months, baby tasted their first solid food—mashed banana! Their digestive system is now ready for gentle introduction to solids. Babies this age can hold their head steady, reach for toys, and laugh out loud.

Sitting Up

At 5 months old, baby can now sit up without support! This shows strong back and core muscles. Babies this age love playing peek-a-boo, passing toys between hands, and babbling consonant sounds like "ba-ba".

First Tooth

At 6 months, baby's first tooth appeared! Teething can cause drooling and fussiness. Babies this age double their birth weight, recognize their name, and show attachment to caregivers. They may experience stranger anxiety.

Crawling Begins

At 7 months old, baby started crawling and exploring the world! Crawling builds strength and coordination. Babies this age understand "no," can find partially hidden objects, and use pincer grasp to pick up small items.

First Words

At 8 months, baby said their first words—"mama" and "dada"! Language development is blooming. Babies this age wave bye-bye, clap hands, point at things they want, and understand simple instructions.

Standing Up

At 9 months old, baby is pulling up to stand while holding furniture! This is called "cruising" and leads to walking. Babies this age remember where toys are hidden, show preferences for certain people, and love imitating sounds.

First Steps

At 10 months, baby took their first independent steps! Walking typically happens between 9-12 months. Babies this age can drink from a cup, stack blocks, and understand many words even if they can't say them yet.

First Birthday

Happy 1st Birthday! What an incredible year of growth—from helpless newborn to walking, talking toddler! At 12 months, babies have tripled their birth weight, can say 1-3 words, and have developed unique personalities. Here's to many more milestones ahead!
