HistoryTimeline.com alternative: Boromlia vs HistoryTimeline.com

Choose Boromlia if

• You are building a chronology of your own research rather than browsing one somebody else wrote.
• You want it on the web: a read-only link for a class or a reviewer, a public page, or an embed on a society’s website, on Advanced.
• Every event should name its source in a field of its own, so a reader can check it.
• You work on several machines and would rather install nothing.

Stay with HistoryTimeline.com if

• You want ready-made timelines of world history, science and prehistory to explore and print.
• You want to zoom from one period out to the geological time scale in a single program.

The main difference: a library to explore versus a record you write

HistoryTimeline.com’s strength is its content: curated timelines whose selected events open primary sources and encyclopedia articles. Boromlia ships no curated content of its own to buy. What it gives you is the structure for yours: a date or a range on each event, BC dates included, a place with coordinates for the map, people, tags, chapters for periods, up to ten photos and a source.

Because your timeline lives on the web, it can be read by people who have nothing installed, and it can be exported back out as a PDF, a CSV of every field, or a zip of the photos.

Questions

Does Boromlia come with ready-made history timelines?

It has a public Examples catalogue, much of it history, that anyone can read for free. It is not sold as content to copy: Boromlia is the tool for building your own timeline, with your sources on it.

Can a history timeline in Boromlia go back before year 1?

Yes. BC dates are supported, and each timeline sets its own time level, from seconds up to years, so a timeline of ancient Rome and one of a single battle can each read at the scale that suits it.

May I share a timeline I make in Boromlia?

Yes. What you make is yours. On Advanced you can send a read-only link, publish it as a public page, or embed it on another website, and on every plan you can export it as a PDF or CSV.
