Storyflow alternative: Boromlia vs Storyflow

Boromlia vs Storyflow: a dated timeline that draws itself instead of a canvas you arrange, with a map, filters and sources. Who should pick which.

Storyflow is an infinite canvas where timeline events are cards you drag into place, with phases, milestones and connector lines. Boromlia takes the opposite approach: you enter dates, and the layout follows from them.

The main difference: a canvas you arrange versus dates that arrange themselves

On a canvas, position is the data: move a card and you have changed the timeline. In Boromlia the date is the data. Each event carries a date or a range, a place with coordinates, a source, people, tags and photos, and the River, Cards, Map and Spans styles are drawn from those fields. Add thirty events and every style is redrawn; nothing has to be pushed aside.

The cost is freedom of layout. Boromlia will not let you put an event anywhere its date does not say it belongs.

Questions

Can I place an event anywhere I like?
No. In Boromlia an event sits where its date puts it. You choose the style, the time level and the filters, and the layout follows. If free placement is the point, a canvas tool suits you better.
Does Boromlia draw dependencies or milestones?
It has no dependency links. A single date reads as a milestone and a range as a span, and the Spans style shows both on one shared axis, so what overlapped is visible at a glance.
Who can see what I build?
Only you, until you share it. On Advanced a share link is read-only unless you let its holders add events, and it is kept out of search results. A timeline becomes public only when you publish it.
